Trail Bike Riding

Mary Valley Country has become a favorite location for bike riders of all persuasions.  Trail Bikes, Motorcross, Dirt Bikes, Enduro are all catered for.  If you are riding in local forests, care should be taken as these roads are used by walkers, horseriders, cyclist and other vehicles including harvesting machinery and logging trucks.

Ride responsibly and have a fantastic weekend away.

A network of roads and firebreaks criss-cross State forests. This network is made up of formed roads that are designed for vehicle traffic and are constructed with drainage. The fire breaks are flat bladed tracks, designed to assist in managing fire not to sustain vehicle traffic.  Motorbike access is therefore restricted to the existing network of formed forest road with access to firebreaks prohibited.

Forestry Plantations Qld may close roads periodically for operational purposes with entry into these areas prohibited.

Individual drivers do not generally need a permit to drive within State forests but must be licensed and operating a registered vehicle. Commercial activities, organised group activities (involving 5 or more vehicles) and competitive events will require a permit.

The popular trails through the forestry see groups of friends gather regularly in the Mary Valley for the weekend or holiday gatherings taking to the forest for a taste of the fresh mountain air.

Tips for low impact riding

  • Stay on existing roads and tracks.
  • Give way to animals. Parks and forests are for their protection.
  • Wash your bike thoroughly before and after trips to prevent the spread of weeds.
  • Leave gates as you find them.
  • If an obstruction blocks your path, don’t drive into the roadside drain to pass it. Remove the obstruction, if possible and safe to do so, or return from the direction you came. Ensure that obstructions do not block roadside drains.
